2009 Cheshire Democratic Candidates with their Families

Who is the CDTC?

Representing the Democratic Party in Cheshire, Connecticut

The Cheshire Democratic Town Committee is comprised of 40 registered members of the Democratic Party in Cheshire, Connecticut. Ten Democrats represent each of the town's four Council districts, working to recruit candidates for Cheshire's many volunteer and elected Boards, and raising money to successfully elect Democrats to office.

What does the CDTC do?

Supporting Democratic nominees for election to government in Cheshire and the State of Connecticut

The Cheshire Democratic Town Committee provides a vehicle for the support of Democratic ideals at a grass roots level. We are neighbors helping neighbors to address the problems facing each of us in our town, and to plan a future for Cheshire as a fiscally sound, environmentally friendly community with a representative municipal government in our town hall.

The Committee maintains expertise in the following four areas:
Electioneering    Supporting the election campaigns of candidates endorsed by the Democratic Party. This includes sign postings, mailings, telephoning and local networking.
Candidate Qualification    Providing advice and expertise as well as person power to new potential Democratic nominees.
Fundraising    Raising money to support electioneering and candidates, including running ads in the local media, and hosting fund raising events for local and state wide Democratic Party candidates.
Public Relations    Several initiatives of the CDTC help to deliver the policies and actions of our Democratic officials to the community, including a weekly TV show "Spotlight on Cheshire", an official web site (www.cheshiredems.org), a Facebook Group (Cheshire, CT Democrats), frequent P.R. releases and local newspaper advertising.

When does the CDTC meet?

Meeting monthly at the Senior Center in Cheshire, CT to support the Democratic Party

The committee meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Cheshire Senior Center. Attendance is welcome to registered Democrats who would like more information or want to help the Democratic Party. The public is welcome to listen to our invited speakers.

Cheshire Democratic Town Committee Platform *

  • Quality of Life: Our first consideration in Town government will be the health, welfare and safety of Cheshire´s citizens, and particularly the preservation of the quality of our drinking water, clean air, and suburban environment.

  • Full-Service Representation: Our elected representatives, both collectively and as individuals. will be outspoken advocates for all of their constituents, regardless of party affiliation, and for the Town.
    • Town Councilors will act wherever possible to represent the interests of the citizens of Cheshire.
    • Board of Education members will be vocal advocates of quality, affordable education.
    • Land use commissioners will work toward passage of effective regulations, and apply them diligently for the benefit of the Town.

  • Effective Management: The Council and Board of Education will strive for effective management and oversight of the Town´s business, especially in the areas of land acquisition, capital projects and personnel relations. By doing so, they will ensure maximum value for Cheshire´s taxpayers.
The Council will insist that Town staff be fully responsive to citizen requests for information or assistance.

  • Strategic Planning: This management will be guided by a firm basis of strategic planning.
Specifically, a comprehensive plan will be developed for the Town Center - including input from Planning & Zoning, Town Council, Economic Development, etc. - to ensure that this vital area of town becomes both more productive and more attractive.

  • Broader Tax Base: We will actively pursue all avenues to enlarge the Town´s tax base, including increased advertising, public improvements and targeted tax incentives.
In particular, the approach to development of the Interchange Zone, which has been completely ineffective to date, will be reconsidered.

* Note that the Democratic Party Platform is essentially what the CDTC also proposed from 2001 to 2007 - our goals remain the same.
